REALEASE: A menopause smart jewellery collection

Kintsugi Design had the privilege of working with KEA Jewellery Designers Charlotte Vering and Maria Wie Andersen on a menopause device (#menotech). Charlotte and Maria designed and developed the wearable jewellery collection REALEASE, to *release* the wearer’s inner calm and strength. This collection was designed for women who are approaching the age of perimenopause, the time before one’s period stops (menopause).

Stress is one of the key factors in how severe menopause symptoms can be, so by beginning to recognize and address stress and anxiety early on, the wearer is more prepared for the transition into the next phase of their life.

REALEASE uses EEG (brainwave) sensors in the headpiece to measure when your brain activity indicates stress or anxiety (Alpha brain waves); and uses reflexology to calm you down through a tactile sensation on the ear’s pressure point (via the earring). This signal gives you the opportunity to regain focus through self awareness. In this prototype we used a heart rate sensor, and are working on incorporating the EEG sensor in future iterations.
